some interesting comments:

QuoteSusan spent a good part of her life looking after her parents. Her mother died aged 91 a short (ish) while ago. She was distraught for a long time as she had lived all her life with her parents and now lives alone with her cat Pebbles.

and.. of course I can't find the second one, but apparently she has had a severe learning disability since she was little.

If both of those are true, she's even more amazing.

Yeah, she has quite the amazing voice.  I hope she makes it onto the show, as that'll prove they really are looking for talented people rather than just pretty people.

I like Simon's face-saving comment after she's done...

British opera fans might soon need some water to Boyle in a Potts?

The best I could find:

Quote
She said: ?I was slightly brain damaged at birth, and I want people like me to see that they shouldn?t let a disability get in the way. I want to raise awareness - I want to turn my disability into ability.?

Apparently oxygen deprivation at birth made her have a lower-than-average IQ which landed her in special ed classes, which in turn got her bullied while in school.

Mr. Analog

She's really ripping the industry a hole from what I've been reading thru GoogleNews.

Check out this very different perspective on the whole Susan Boyle performance :)

Ah the ancient art of editing. One thing I like about being visually impaired is that sometimes visual cues go completely unnoticed, it usually leads to some cheap entertainment for me...

I must be missing something...  I don't get how this is such a different perspective?  It was pretty clear to me that a major part of the reason she's gotten so much YouTube airtime is that the video shows shallow people getting the ol' kick in the nuts for immediately writing her off - if not out loud, then at least in their minds.

"different" because the blogger is not just someone who is sharing their thoughts along the lines of "Simon is a greedy bastard", instead this case is the unique perspective of a very special person, who is one of 50* "wizards" or "naturals" in the art/science of "human lie detectors"... so it's like an extra layer of analysis as opposed to the Average Jo's interpretation of the audience's reaction/body language etc.

*over 20,000 were tested and only 50 were deemed "naturals"; partly the basis for the TV series "Lie To Me".
