Like District 9, this shortfilm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dadPWhEhVk will now become a full featured film with Sam Raimi at the helm.  Check it out and tell me what you think.

I don't think it has the same amount of uniqueness that Alive In Joburg had to spark District 9. At least Joburg sets up a story, Panic Attack just looks like any other giant robot invasion.

Agreed, mostly. The kid or the guy who gets out of the car could be a character that before the invasion you get to know, and WHY the robuts attacked the way they did, slowly lumbering into town, "fighter jets" flying all over the place, then that nifty gadget where it explodes ala ID4... maybe all that could be explained since it seems less than efficient (and maybe not necessary, as it seems the bots were ... crushing ... the humans up to the point of the fireball thingie) ... contrast that with a lot of other cool "demo" shorts that film-makers keep putting out there, where they don't leave it up to you to speculate for reasons why you should care about the affected humans.

One of the YT comments mentioned that the guys behind the surprisingly good "Star Wreck: in the Pirkinning" are doing a "Nazis fled to the moon, now they're coming back and pissed" type of movie. Same general invasion idea, but with motivation and story potential.
