DOMAINfest: Nerds At The Playboy Mansion?

DOMAINfest sounds like a typical computer nerd conference, wouldn't you say?  Well, maybe not standard nerds! as Denham Renholm so eloquently puts it in IT Crowd's opening episode, but still, it's kinda techy/geeky/nerdy in nature.

So apparently they had several parties at this conference, and one of the parties was a fundraiser for Generation Rescue Autism Foundation.  Here's the details: http://domainfest.com/DOMAINFESTGlobal2011/domainsponsor-party.  Wow, they managed to help two families from last year's fundraising?  Methinks there was a lot less fundraising and a lot more ogling women going on.  If you go to the pictures and look at the third set (NSFW), you'll see that they had "go-go dancers" with pasties.

So guess what?  There's over 200 people that got sick from some infectious disease at this party!  That'll teach you 'em to pretend they're doing fundraising at what is basically an outdoor titty bar.

one "flavour" of autism is Asperger's, apparently... and we all know how many tech geeks seem to claim they suffer from it...

I don't claim I suffer from Asperger's.  I've done a thorough analysis of the typical symptoms and have come to a solid conclusion that I don't have some of them.

Mr. Analog

Your tone of writing makes you sound jealous there Thorin hahaha

That said, I can't think of many "tech conferences" that actually involved real nerds (unless you count democamp as a conference I guess) ;-)

On the upshot, at least 2 families got help (better than none I guess)

Lazybones

I have met someone with Asperger's, and although there can be many degrees of it I am positive non of you have it.

Tom

I "know" a couple people online with aspergers, and it is /really/ obvious they have it. They are odd to say the least.
<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!

Lazybones

Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory seems to have several traits similar to those with aspergers if I had to think of any character on TV.

Does that mean you have the rest of them?

;)

PS: Mel, would you say Rob shows "some" of the symptoms? Honestly asking yer opinion... fine line between genius and mental illness. That's what I keep telling myself anyway  :P

http://www.nbc.com/parenthood/
the son max.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReGenesis
Bob Melnikov

it has been said that grisom may have had it,  though when they started to round out his character it was obvious he was just strange.

i had a more complete list at one point but i dont remember most of them lol.

edit

the lead male on law and order criminal intent

on greys anatomy there was a visiting surgeon who was on the spectrum likely aspergers.

on numb3rs the best friend of the lead male character.

Temperance Brenan on "bones"

dr reid on criminal minds.

We have a very clear suspicion that Rob quite possibly is borderline Asperger.  He does fit a lot of the symptoms, more than mot of you whom know him would have guest.

i honestly thought so too.

and my fascination with asd is i have real life friends with either a clear suspicion they have it or are diagnosed. Tom even fits much of the criteria. and it is thought add and adhd is in the spectrum.

some speculate that most if not all brain disorders  root causes are the same... the difference is age of onset and development. some say Alzheimer's is old peoples asd.

and to hear my friend talk of her experiences it sounds much like one of my "bipolar" episodes except she deals with it all the time mine was episodic. plus she wasnt delusional hehe... it was just harder for her to comunicate

and i would speculate my older bro may have fit enough criteria of this as well. but it very well could have just been the ocd aspect that most of my family seems to be afflicted with. but again some say thats on the spectrum too.

So much for talking about "nerds" getting sick while attending a pretty-much-fake fundraiser at the Playboy mansion...

LOL I guess people were just waiting for an excuse to talk about Asperger's syndrome.
