Increase demand and reduce costs, bye bye CFL.

and afaik halogen are mega heat producers, and hazardous.

They have started stuffing the halogen element inside glass shaped for traditional bulbs.. What you get is a bulb that acts very close to that of the traditional bulb but for hits heat and light output is about %25 more efficient.

Go look at the chandler bulb options... the LED ones are nasty looking, there are few if any CFL options but the halogen ones fit in almost perfectly and look almost exactly the same when lit.

I've seen those halogen bulbs, I like them as an alternative for sure

I am guessing you haven't shopped for light bulbs in a VERY long time... They are most common for the odd bulbs that CFL can't replace well, like the candle shaped lights, the large round clear bulbs in some bathroom mirror fixtures as well as dim-able lights...

They are also great if you want MORE light but only have one 60 or 100W fixture since they give off much more light at those W.
