So I'm not sure if many of you have been poking around the experimental Tekkit thread but I thought I'd post a little bit on how to get started with it.

First of all installing Tekkit does not interfere at all with Minecraft, in fact it uses a whole other directory, the TechnicLauncher also gives you a nifty way of organizing Tekkit, YogBox, Technic and Hack/Mine mods (which, all come with the TechnicLauncher).

Anyway, it's a fast install and you'll be off to the races quite soon.

Tekkit itself is much like Minecraft however there are a ton of materials like ores, gems and plant life. Many of these items enter the game for use with various mods that are collected into Tekkit, but they are often compatible with each other.

You start your adventure much like any Minecraft session (punch tree, make crafting table, etc) but as you find more exotic ores and cool stuffs you really begin to tap into what you can do with Tekkit (i.e. building stuff).

A good series that shows you what you can do with Tekkit is here:

You have a multitude of paths to take as well. RedPowerII (RP2), Equivalent Exchange (EE), BuildCraft (BC), IndustrialCraft (IC), and RailCraft (RC) are all independent mods, which have their own tech tree, and you can easily stick with one mod the entire game if you wish. Or you can play with all of them at your whim!

The best part is that the different mods compliment each other

Maybe someday...  I have been following the Experimental Tekkit thread and that stuff looks cool, but I would be cutting into my sleep time too much if I started Tekkitting as well :P

It's good to have a balance in life between busy and not, and my vanilla minecrafting is my "not busy" time, but I have found several times that I was still up playing when the sun came up, so I'm already spending too much time on it.

But damn that mining laser sounds like a nice tool :)  And I think EE should show up in our vanilla server :)
Prayin' for a 20!

gcc thorin.c -pedantic -o Thorin
compile successful

EE is VERY handy, it makes some things completely obsolete (like multiple furnaces)
