I'velogged on a couple of times today, and both times I had to stop playing pretty quickly as the lag was making things unplayable.

I'm betting it was my weekly backup. It uses rsync over ssh to upload my backups to my dedicated server. I'm pretty sure ssh has priority over /most/ things, so that could have been causing some serious lag.
