Demonoid Is Down

Well, it's been reported on all kinds of sites now that the Demonoid servers were DDoSed, raided, copied, and sealed off from the Internet about a week ago.  Many users are lamenting its loss, with a significant percentage pointing out that Demonoid was frequently the only place they could find rare and obscure movies, music, and TV shows (including trying to buy them from the original creators or distributors!).

Whether it stays down for good or comes back up is the sixty-four-thousand-dollar question.

There is some talk about the raid having been done under false pretenses and thus possibly against Ukrainian law (the servers were hosted in the Ukraine).  The DDoS attack that started a week before the raid has been rumoured to have originated from Ukrainian-government-owned computers, and there's this interesting coincidence of a Ukrainian minister being in the US this week to discuss cracking down on copyright infringement.

Anyway, if you're trying to access it, watch out as apparently one of the responding servers is now dishing out malware-laden ads.  Yes Tom, I know you'll be safe from the malware.

LOL. I wasn't thinking anything along those lines :P But now that you think about it... ;)  j/k.

It does suck that demonoid is down. When I used it, it was very handy. Though I can say I haven't used it very much the past couple years or so.
<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!
