Good god, I can't believe some of the movies they're trying to re-make.

Also, I can't believe how many of the movies on that list I've seen and remember well enough to know scenes from.  I guess all those late nights spent watching crappy movies instead of sleeping paid off in the end!

The thing is is that there are PLENTY of films with great premises but poor execution (see "Creation of the Humanoids" for starters!!)

I just... I don't know, if this is the best they can do today, the film industry is going to be dead or otherwise irrelevant in 20 years.

I'm sure we'll continue to have upstarts and indies and surprise hits.  There's just too much money available for people to not try and make some original films.

True, but still, I don't see the point of absorbing so much talent to make retreads.

I'm sure it makes sense from an statistical accounting point of view...

So...  Was the remake/reboot of Star Trek a good idea?  That's reusing an existing idea, isn't it?  I think I was the only one on this forum that said I didn't like it, what with Kirk and Spock suddenly becoming action heroes.

It was okay but unnecessary, that's the problem though, a lot of remakes are merely passable rather than engaging and interesting. I'd rather sit at home for a couple hours and watch YouTube or do something constructive or re-watch a classic.

Glad to see they're not redoing movies like Ice Station Zebra, which is a classic because of its style of acting and its source material.  I'm surprised they're redoing Red Dawn but with a Chinese invasion - it makes no sense for the Chinese to invade us whereas it made sense for the Russians way back when.  After all, if the Chinese invade the US, then the US will simply refuse to pay back its debt to them and China will lose its largest export partner.

It's funny now that the Cold War is over and we find out that back in the day the Warsaw Pact states were fearing an invasion just as much as the NATO member nations were...

I remember air raid siren tests in my youth, back when I was still in Holland.  We had to hide under our desks.  Because a school desk will save you from a thousand pound bomb.  I'd already read a bunch about WWII and the nightly air raids over London, and it sure felt weird to hear those sirens start up.  Made me imagine I was in 1940s London instead of 1980s Holland.
