Most ?World Class? cities have several billionaires on their roster. You might go as far to say that it?s required to reach that ?Top Tier? status to which a metropolis naturally aspires. A billionaire is an encouraging sign that ?this city is a place where you can make it.? A billionaire supports iconic civic projects. A billionaire builds things that he or she likes and shares them with their fellow citizens, things with a scale that non-billionaires cannot support on their own; architecture, libraries, art galleries, schools. When they make things that are excellent, everyone benefits.

A billionaire can bolster citizens? pride, and can help to get those bigger civic projects done.

But it?s not just the money that makes the man (not to be sexist, but the majority of billionaires in Canada are still men: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadians_by_net_worth ) , it takes a little more than the ability to amass wealth to be the kind of billionaire that an aspiring world class city needs.  Some billionaires are selfish, this is their choice and their right, but they will never be world class billionaires.

A world class city billionaire has what it takes to amass the wealth, but he also knows that some things are worth doing even if they don?t add to the bottom line, he knows that some ?bottom lines? are not preceded by a dollar sign. His actions say ?thank you world class city for your contribution to my life? in a way that the citizens can only respond with ?no, thank YOU.?  A world class city billionaire is loved by his city, not for his ability to amass wealth, but for the skills and the character he shows in using it.

What does it take to make the step from billionaire to world class billionaire? It takes charisma, courage, humility, willingness to take some small personal risks in an effort to make the city that formed you a better place, and the ability to carry on a public conversation without pissing off everbody. All qualities that, sadly, our current billionaire lacks. You see, Edmonton only has one notable billionaire, but after multiple opportunities to demonstrate his world class qualities, he has fallen short, time and again. If your city is wonderful enough to be considered world class already, and you have enough billionaires milling about so ours can blend in (he?s shy), maybe we could arrange a trade. He?ll bring the status that comes with amassed wealth, and a proven track record of financially supporting initiatives that don?t require public charisma or the ability to talk publicly in a non-patronizing manner. If you need money without a charming front man, we might be able to make this a win-win situation.

Edmonton wants to be a world class city. Edmonton is a place where we like to build things from the ground up, we like to work together, we like to make something, and we have an opening for a world class billionaire. We don?t need a hero to come save the day, we need another member for our team who brings a unique set of billionaire-skills. If you have what it takes, check us out: http://www.edmonton.ca/ , we have a lot of opportunities for you to make something great.

(Occasional invites to appear publicly before city council to discuss world class city building initiatives may be required.)

I was curious to see how unique this little gem was, looked for "Billionaire" on the site.

Only other search result was http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-community-other-THE-SUCCESS-SECRETS-THEY-DONT-WANT-YOU-TO-KNOW-ABOUT-W0QQAdIdZ389169720

So I'm really hoping the "ad" gets some national coverage because of its genius.
