Hhmmm.... or you could always have redundant ISPs in your house :P

Or you could use that antenna thing

Or wait for it.

I plan on recording over the air content once the next HDHomerun units come out with native h264 support...

Melbosa

But Showcase doesn't run on over the air :(.  Can't watch Lost Girl then :P

Yeah, redundant ISPs works.  As long as they have separate connections to your house.  If they all work on the same tech and thus use the same wire coming into your house, you could still have this problem.

Imagine a week without any internet connection, though...

It can still be more convenient than dealing with OTA or Cable. Especially once you automate the downloading and sorting :D flexget ftw. No commercials, no cable company shuffling channels, no channel shuffling time slots. And you can watch what you want when ever and where ever you are.

...no paying for entertainment you consume...

I still watch the embeded advertising, not to mention paying shaw for cable for years without using it. And shaw still gets money from me. So meh.

If they'd give me what I want and make it more convenient, I'd happily pay for it. But they won't. It's like they don't want my money.

PVR + cable connection??

Also what torrents are you downloading that have commercials in them (!?)

Melbosa

I know some of the shows I watch have adverts right in the bottom left part of the show, which can't get away from.  Showcase ripped shows are filled with them!

Quality sucks. Shaw doesn't have a pvr that commercial skips. did you know that shaw inflates the cost of their internet to cover the cost for people cutting the cord?

As long as they continue to gouge people for service, I don't feel too bad about downloading tv.

Any show that includes embedded advertising. Which is most of them.

You know what, this isn't even worth arguing because watching a show via HD PVR every week is gonna be totally different from downloading a whole season of a show and shotgunning it.

There's a way you can get your hands on that experience, it's called buy the video set.

Sure. When are you going to buy the entire DVD set of TNG? And then I also have to wait for them to get around to releasing it. Which can take years for some shows if it ever happens.

I'm thinking of getting netflix solely for things like House of Cards and possible new shows. Reasonable price, convenient, and content I want. go figure. I'm not against spending money on things I want, but it has to be what I want, for a decent price. Cable doesn't deliver on that.

I even recently bought music off of iTunes and another site because it was more convenient and inexpensive to do so, and I got exactly what I wanted. Same with books. I buy lots of books. recently just bought the programming lua 2nd edition ebook. why? it was easier and more convenient than torrenting.
