My son showed me that video; they've done a ton of other cool renditions. And by cool I mean "hep cat" cool. Without being too hipstery. Just like a smooth live jazz jam that isn't even trying to be cool, it just is.

They've been incredibly prolific in under 3 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentatonix

PTX shared a "Youtube Music Video" award for their pretty damn awesome collaboration with "that violin girl" (doing a cover of "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons)

Yeah, I was going to buy their CDs, but they are out :( don't really want to give apple or amazon any money either.

You don't want to know how many times I've watched that daft punk medley video.

Well at LEAST you can obey The Deep Voice (Avi) and subscribe :)

Somehow during lunch this week I re-discovered PTX and really appreciate them for the uber-talent that each of them are let alone as a solid integrated group -- I ended up watching their amazing and emotion-stirring performance on the 3rd season of NBC acappella competition show "The Sing-Off"

Looked into things later and wow unbelievable that Kevin and Avi (aka Beatbox and Bass) only joined the high-voiced trio shortly before that first performance (Katy Perry's "E.T.") and how they repeatedly blew the minds of the judges pretty much every single song (esp. with them having only 5 members vs the 12-30 members of their competitors).

if you appreciate upbeat music in general, and especially awesome vocal skills, you owe it to yourself to become an addict :) These kids deserve all the success in the world, no autotune necessary, heck not even instruments neded thanks to Kevin and Avi :)

I subscribed ages and ages ago. And bought their first two albums as well as their Christmas album. Might pick up their third album. But I only /really/ like a few of their songs at most.

Watch all their performances on TSO if you haven't already, their live performances especially under the pressure of that kind of structure, pretty amazing, compared to a studio-polished product. I agree though sometimes their choice of song to cover is underwhelming. They always bring something unique to their performance of it, sure, but sometimes you've got little to work with compared to other material.

I some times just sit on youtube and watch music videos based on the related list... Like mr A I saw that one a while ago and thought it was great as well.

Yeah, I really enjoyed this one. There are others that I like, but they try maybe a little too hard to stick to their overly polished/produced format. They are good, but sometimes that quirk of theirs just doesn't really work for a given song or medley. Another thing I noticed is that they don't always seem to put real effort into the actual performance in the music videos, and just stare into the camera creepily :o

Like with Pomplamoose I /really/ loved their Beat It cover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meT2eqgDjiM), maybe even more than the original. I just thought it was that good, but THE REST of their songs I've heard sound the same, and it just doesn't do it for me.
