As long as there's a backup I'm not worried.

Just as long as we don't lose anything :)

Let us know when it's up, then give us a few days to look it over before we finalize it.  I know I probably won't be online much tonight or tomorrow night due to sports and meetings and sleep (damn sleep, always messing with my Minecraft time!).

The map format is fairly well documented.  You might find it quicker to program your own solution to prune unwanted map space than using mcedit.

To do a decent job of it, it'd take more time to write and test the program than to just hack the map this one time. I thought about it.

append: I was just thinking, could make it keep all chunks with cobble in it (and N diameter chunks around it), and prune the rest ;D That may delete some wanted stuff, so I think it'd be better to have a list of block types to not keep, like stone, ores, logs (in trees), air (obviously), water, lava, etc. Anything else, like tile entities and cobble, and wood planks would keep that chunk and N chunks around that chunk. Could be interesting. I might do that for fun after the initial map. See if it does a better job than I do ;D

How about torches?

Cobble and torches are usually good indicators I'd say.

The vanilla server is going to be down tonight right? And the Tekkit server is going away?

Just so I know what I'm playing later (if I'm not playing Orcs Must Die 2 or Torchlight II)

Vanilla is down right now and probably not back till the new map is up. And tekkit isn't going away till FTB has RP2 and EE3.

Dammit, tonight's the night I could actually play Minecraft and now the server's offline.  Maybe I'll just spin up a personal survival world and build me a base, or something.

That, or I can put the server back up till I get the tool I'm writing working. be trying to finish it up tonight, but no guarantees.

append: it seems posts (even your own) don't get marked as edited if your a forum mod. interesting.

Your post will get marked as Edited but you have like a 3 minute or so grace period before it does.  That is if you edit in a certain time frame you don't get the "edited" appended message.

It starts a lot like Minecraft but once you get on your feet you can take things into lots of cool directions.

And you don't have to use any of it. Or only some things.

Rail Craft makes mine carts a bit more annoying to begin with, but afterwards its stupid awesome.
